Use Inspector gadgets and search to inspect a layout, or Search & Replace to make deliberate text changes.

Choose the right tool

• Use Inspector gadgets to examine the selected object, its hierarchy, properties, relationships, geometry, and other layout information. Gadgets are read-only.
• Use Search to find text and related layout content. Searching is read-only. See Search a Visual Components layout for result handoff actions and search coverage settings.
• Use Search & Replace when you intend to update matching text. Review the proposed replacements and choose the changes to apply.
• Use Notes to keep session observations and object references. A reference to an invalidated runtime object can remain visible while its object actions become unavailable.

Keep the distinction clear during an investigation: Search, gadgets, Go To, and reference selection observe or navigate the current session; applying or undoing a Search & Replace operation changes supported text values.
